May Flowers :: Lilly of the Valley

Lily of the Valley is the flower associated with the month of May - the second part of its Latin name, Convallaria majalis, means "belonging to May".   Lily of the Valley symbolizes purity, humility, and a return to happiness. Its growth in the spring is said to herald the nightingale's yearly return to the forest and its mating season.  Another legend claims that nightingales will only sing after the scent of the lily of the valley fills the air.   This legend could be the inception of another one of the plant’s common names, Fairy’s Bells.

The month of May is a good time to work on manifesting with respect to careers and jobs. Do you wish to switch to a new position, or perhaps trying a different career altogether?

May Day happens at the beginning of May. It celebrates the rise of spring and the flowering of life.    Fill a basket with flowers and goodwill and then giving it to someone who is in need of healing and caring.  Many people will form a wreath of freshly picked flowers and wear it in their hair.   It is a time to feel yourself full of  joy and beauty. Its time to get rid of the dark and dingey old clothes and dress in bright colors. Dance the Maypole and feel the love and laughter fill your veins.   Another tradition is to make a wish as you jump a bonfire or candle flame for good luck. Welcome in the May at dawn with singing and dancing.

May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day.
May songbirds serenade you every step along the way.
May a rainbow run beside you i a sky that's always blue.
And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.
- Irish Blessing
